![]() ![]() ![]() Cheadle who has played him from Iron Man 2 onwards has unfortunately never had the balance of seriousness and being funny at the same time. Rhodey falling wasn’t emotional and the same could be said for when Tony died, while Peter and Pepper had emotional scenes and tearing up at the death of Tony, Rhodey just looked like he was frowning with maybe a single tear escaping his eye and Rhodey is supposed to be like a brother to Tony to show little emotion at the death of a sibling figure is extremely alarming and unfortunate.Īs I said before Rhodey has been portrayed by 2 different actors, Terrence Howard and Don Cheadle, in my opinion Howard nailed James Rhodes in the first Iron Man movie having the seriousness needed to play Rhodey but did have his funny moments from time to time it was a perfect balance. He also didn’t have very good chemistry with Tony in my opinion from the second Iron Man movie onwards and I feel his fall in Civil War wasn’t really heartbreaking like when Bucky fell in Captain America The First Avenger or when Loki was supposedly killed in both Thor movies. In Endgame I really thought he would do something pivotal or important in the plot since he was a survivor but he didn’t really do anything important, he just travelled back in time with Nebula and stood by her while she got the power stone. Tony is of course one of the main heroes in the MCU and Rhodey is somewhat of a sidekick to him in my opinion, he’s never really had a chance by himself and hasn’t ever really done anything important in the MCU alone, while side characters like Bucky and Loki have stolen the show in their respective movies Rhodey hasn’t. Rhodey is the best friend of Tony Stark or Iron Man and operates by his side as War Machine and briefly as Iron Patriot in Iron Man 3. Rhodey’s jokes aren’t funny in my opinion either like I stated before, they’re one liners which don’t even put a smile on my face with the “Baby Thanos” joke in Endgame just being there for Bruce Banner to explain that’s not how time travel works. He’s always been somewhat of a humours person having moments which are supposedly “funny.” However in my opinion I don’t think his jokes are all that funny and I don’t think that’s the main purpose of his character, Rhodey is supposed to be the older, mature, responsible figure to Tony Stark who is the opposite of those things and unfortunately it’s been the exact opposite in the MCU Rhodey, whilst being responsible has often tried to crack jokes and make people laugh several times, while Tony while irresponsible and funny in his first few movies has been more serious then Rhodey in the later half of the MCU, especially in Endgame. Rhodey is one of the characters who has actually had an actor change in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Terrence Howard portraying him in the first Iron Man movie and Don Cheadle portraying him from Iron Man 2 onwards. Before I continue with this blog, yes I know so many fans love Rhodey but to be honest guys I’m in the minority when it comes to my opinion for this character and that’s okay, not everyone agrees on everything but at the same time when opinions differ you shouldn’t bash the person with a different opinion to you, my opinion and experiences with Rhodey’s character in the MCU may be completely different to yours, or maybe it’ll be very similar, however there’s one thing to be stated once more, this isn’t factual it’s an opinion so if you disagree with me politely comment down below why.” ![]()
